Tibi Ellis on the Issues

Jobs and Economy

As a 25 year successful businesswoman I’ve seen firsthand the effects of government policies on job creation—both positive and negative.  I will work everyday with a dedicated focus toward jumpstarting our economy and creating new jobs.

We must streamline and incentivize job creation instead of penalizing it. We must attract new jobs and welcome business, not increase their costs and add more hassle through the licensing process…even the Las Vegas Sun agrees this type of policy makes sense. We must offer tax reductions and incentives for new businesses to start, grow and create jobs.

I am committed to keeping Nevada a business-friendly environment and will promote and fight for policies which get our economy back on the right track.

Education

Every child deserves a quality education. As a mother and grandmother I want the very best for the next generation of Nevadans—it’s why I’m running for office.

I will fight for more money going to the classroom, not district bureaucrats.  Directing scarce resources to where they can make a difference—the classroom—instead of to administrators and overhead is necessary to ensure Nevada’s investment in education pays off.

I will fight for accountability and autonomy in our schools. Nevada’s principals and teachers need the flexibility to determine the needs of their own students, not have orders passed down from bureaucrats who’ve never taught a child.

I will fight to expand charter schools and specialized education programs so our children receive the refined education that they need to be successful later in life.

Parents need to have more options and decision making capabilities with their child’s education…one size does not fit all and it is not how we should treat our children’s education…we can, and must, do better.

Healthcare

After 25 years in the healthcare industry I understand the challenges posed by marketplace health care, restrictive government payment policies, the disparity of funding for some individuals care, and the shortage of qualified medical personnel in some areas.

Healthcare must be a priority for Nevada.

I will fight for quality, affordable healthcare for all Nevadans. I will fight to protect the patient/doctor relationship and keep bureaucrats out of the process.

I will defend and support the will of the voters in their passage of the ballot initiative, Keep Our Doctors in Nevada.

I support competition among health plans and insurance companies and allowing Nevadans to make their own decisions about what health plan and coverage is right for them. Healthcare decisions should not be crammed down onto Nevada consumers.

Immigration

As an immigrant myself I have been asked about this topic a number of times, and while much of the immigration issue is the responsibility of the federal government it is important for you to know where I stand.

I came to this country legally, went through the process to become a citizen and followed the laws during the entire endeavor.

I believe others want to--and should--do the same.

Our government has failed us for years through its broken immigration system. It’s long past time to fix our immigration bureaucracy so we are not faced with a reoccurring challenge every few decades.

I am proud to say that I helped craft the Republican Party platform on this topic and it was unanimously approved at the Clark County and State conventions. The language reads:

13. We welcome legal immigrants from all nations, cultures and races. We demand strict enforcement of all immigration laws by all levels of government. We support enforcement of immigration laws by state, local and federal law- enforcement agencies. We demand that the federal government secure our national borders. We oppose granting amnesty to illegal immigrants. We support the rule of law and the United States Constitution as it pertains to the Fourteenth Amendment and its explanation of citizenship.

We are a nation of immigrants and a nation of laws. Like my grandmother did more than 70 years ago, many want to enter the country legally, learn English, pay taxes, and contribute to our communities. We welcome them.
